Wedding Trends 2020

The Biggest Wedding Trends to Watch For in 2020

Are you getting married next year?

If you are, congratulations! And good luck, because now is the time of planning and organizing a bazillion things for your big day. And if you are someone who likes to be on trend, on fleek and fashionable, you probably want your wedding in the most current style as well.

These days, weddings are moving away from choosing-a-church tradition toward a more personal celebration and adventure. Even Megan Markle chose to break century-old customs in place of more modern, intimate wedding choices. If the Duchess can do it, then so can you.

To make your wedding unique, but still in vogue, we’ve put together the most exciting wedding trends to watch out for in 2020.

Individuality is Key

The great news is that the overarching wedding trend for next year is individuality. The wedding industry has evolved. Couples are no longer expected to stick to a defined theme or aesthetic. Today, couples have the freedom to express themselves on their big day.

We’re all different. We act and dress differently and we like different things. Our weddings should be an extension of who we are and what we love. Instead of a cookie-cutter wedding theme, couples now have the chance to create an ambiance and look they truly want.

People are no longer feeling as much pressure to live up to a wedding ideal. Whether you imagine an intimate day-time wedding or a glamorous outdoor dinner party, you have the creative freedom to lead the way.

Relaxed and Informal

That said, inviting all your Facebook friends to your wedding is no longer a possibility. Nor is it expected, thank goodness. In 2020, couples will opt for more informal, intimate celebrations where small groups of people enjoy one another’s company.

Smaller weddings allow for more meaningful interactions and in the age of social media, we’re all craving some good old-fashioned connections IRL. Couples are also able to spend their budgets more lavishly on smaller groups. In the age of economic uncertainty for many, it makes sense to keep the budget and guest list manageable.

Micro weddings have around 40 people and can be tailored to suit the specific needs and wants of the couple. These weddings can be super informal and fun or they can take the form of a more bespoke soiree.

Either way, smaller weddings are the perfect way to showcase the personality of the couple. You’ll get more one-on-one time with your beloved family and friends. It’s no wonder smaller weddings have become so trendy.

The Venue

In keeping with the intimate theme, wedding venue trends for 2020 are looking pretty personal. Pretty and personal, that is. From back gardens to manor houses, venues depend on the couple’s budget. In the upcoming year, a predominant trend is outdoor venues

It doesn’t matter if it’s your best friend’s garden or a huge estate, as long as there’s greenery, you’ll be on-trend.

Of course, outdoor venues plus rain equals anxiety and panic. Luckily these days, there’s a bunch of outdoor options that protect you from the elements. Gorgeous greenhouse-type structures, glamourous gazebos and tents are available in any size to suit you.

The wonderful thing about these structures is that they can be decorated to your liking. The lighting is customisable, which allows you to curate the perfect fairytale setting.

For couples who want something a bit left of centre, weddings are predicted to lend themselves to adventure. Weddings at the aquarium, safari weddings and even hot air balloons are just ways to add that extra bit of excitement to your big day.

 The Décor Darling

Wedding décor in 2020 is all about recycling and reusing what’s already available. An eco-conscious wedding is simply the way to go for the future of our planet.

In line with this, you’ll see hand-made and thrifted gifts for guests, like second-hand novels, chosen over traditional party-favours. Dried flowers are selected over fresh, more delicate ones that only last the day of the wedding.

In terms of colour themes, the 2020 Pantone colour hasn’t yet been revealed. Although there are talks of ‘neo-mint’ and colours inspired by the sea taking front and centre at weddings.

Even for couples who aren’t all that keen on documenting the whole day on social media, there’s a definite lean toward décor that looks good in pictures. At the end of the day, your guests will be putting pictures of the décor on their Insta Stories.

In line with this, it’s predicted that tablescapes are going to be decadent and personalised.

Couples want their wedding to stand out. There are rumours of Italian inspiration coming through in the décor and food. Think tapestries and lemons down the middle of tables.

As we’ve mentioned above, another décor trend revolves around romantic outdoor garden parties. Fairy lights strewn around trees, indoor furniture set under the stars, and long tables adorned with flowers. It’s all about repurposing and reusing to ensure minimal waste.

 Lights, Camera, Action

Many couples feel as though their wedding day flies by. Before they know it, the cake has been cut and drunk guests are being ferried home. Of course, wedding photographers are there to snap special moments for couples to look back on. But the best way to capture the feel of the day is to have a wedding movie made.

Epic wedding films are going to be a huge trend in 2020. And for good reason. It’s the best way to ensure that you can watch your wedding day back as many times as you like. One day, you can even show your kids how beautiful you looked when you tied the knot.

Wedding videos are also a wonderful way to start a romantic tradition on your wedding anniversary. What better way to celebrate each anniversary than to get curled up on the couch with your better half and relive all the best bits of your nuptials?

These days, wedding videos are a far cry from the awkward home videos shakily shot at your parent’s wedding. Today wedding movies are professional, sleek, and beautiful. You’ll be able to pick the look and feel of the film and even select your own soundtrack.

The Next Steps

After reading this article, you should feel more informed about the future of wedding trends. It’s clear that a relaxed, eco-conscious wedding is the way to go.

When we aim to waste as little as possible, we’re automatically being thoughtful and meaningful in our choices. It’s the best way to ensure you’re being both trendy and kind to the planet.

Although the word ‘trend’ is thrown around to describe different elements that are all the rage, a wedding is about love. As long as the ceremony facilitates a loving celebration, it’s achieved its goal.
